Brighton Beach

The below is an incomplete list of various match races (intentional and unintentional) to occur at Brighton Beach throughout the years.

08/13/1896: Emma C. vs. Mirage

“The two-mile handicap, which was to have been the feature, proved to he only an exercise gallop for Emma C., who had only Mirage to beat, and she did it very easily. Two bad selling platers in a  race for a purse of $1,000 at two miles is little encouragement to managers of race tracks who wish to foster long-distance races.” (The New York Times, 08/14/1896)
