Horse racing hits lowest level in 1912, eclipses the 1892 standard

“Probably a worse crop of 2-year-olds was never raced than in 1892, and the miserable lot of cattle in the 3-year-old division this year is but the natural sequence.” (Chicago Daily Tribune, 09/25/1893)

“Racing of thoroughbred horses advanced slightly during the season of 1913. The reason it advanced was because it had reached its lowest level in 1912, and the only movement possible was forward.” (Harvey T. Woodruff / Chicago Daily Tribune, 12/28/1913)
