When choosing a racehorse, just shut your eyes and grab

“‘I think it’s useless trying to pick on breeding,’ said John H. Morris at the recent sales. ‘You see a horse like Voter can scarce go a mile and he gets a horse like Ballot that can run a mile and a half. You don’t know where you’re at. To my mind the best thing to do is to shut your eyes and grab. That’s what I told John Dyment of Canada when he asked me to buy him a sire to breed something to go a route. I said, ‘Just shut your eyes and grab.’”
