June 1880: Broodmare Belle Isle gored to death by bull

Belle Isle, in foal with a colt by Enquirer, was gored to death by a bull at Belle Meade yesterday.” (The Daily American (Nashville, TN), 06/08/1880)


The American is requested to state that Belle Isle was not gored to death by a bull at Belle Meade, but at Mark Cockrill’s farm. The bull which did the work was the one imported from Europe at a cost of 6,000 dollars.” (The Daily American (Nashville, TN), 06/13/1880)
