Santa Anita’s sub-100k handle

“A subscriber refuses to believe that Santa Anita ever handled less than $100,000 in a single day. Well, believe it or not, Santa Anita had three days during the opening meeting of 1934-1935 when the handle fell below $100,000. The all-time low was $81,620 on the 14th day of the meeting. It rained that day (unusual weather).” (Paul Lowry / Los Angeles Times, 04/24/1949)
