France (1898): The importation of American horses has become a menace

“The General Council of Nantes, France, Aug. 27, adopted a resolution that, as the importation of American horses has so increased as to become a menace to the breeding of French horses, urgent restriction measures regarding such importation should be taken. A regulation was issued that every horse imported should have its origin branded under its mane.”
